Camp Dost
“At Camp Dost, children with cancer have fun doing many of the things other children their ages do, and more. Smiles and laughter abound...”

Welcome to Camp Dost...
...a program of the Ronald McDonald House of Danville and a magical place for children coping with cancer. Camp Dost is a week-long summer camp for kids 5 to 18 years old who have cancer. There is also a 24 Hour Camp for 4 and 5 year olds. In keeping with Camp Dost's mission of making the camp experience as enjoyable as possible for both the child and his or her family, a sibling is permitted and encouraged to accompany each camper.

Camp is not about focusing on cancer. Camp Dost is about allowing children to have fun in an environment where everyone is equal. At Camp, no one looks at you strangely if you have no hair or are in a wheelchair, because they understand what you're going through.

How We Care for our Campers

Camp Dost is designed to meet the needs of children with cancer. Many of the volunteers at Camp are the very same people who care for the children at area hospitals.

Campers go to the Med Shed, a state-of-the-art medical facility onsite for their medications and chemotherapy. Volunteer medical professionals, both doctors and nurses, are on-hand to distribute medications and care for the camper’s special needs.

Mission Statement: Camp Dost seeks to provide a normal camping experience for children with cancer and their siblings.  The goal is to provide these youngsters with a fun-filled, normal camp experience. The emphasis is on the camper’s childhood and not their illness. Activities are designed to develop positive self-image, independence and self-assurance in the campers. Camp Dost also presents the opportunity for these children to meet new friends and learn respect and concern for one another. They also acquire an appreciation and respect for the environment and learn to live with nature.
